Some of you know Coach Paul better as Mr. Cumings (or Mr. Coupon) from Oak Hill Elementary School, where he’s a fourth grade teacher. He is very excited about having the opportunity to lead our summer league swim team again this year. He swims today for fun and exercise, but started swimming a long time ago when he was just a tadpole of about six or seven years old in Annapolis, Maryland. He continued swimming summer league all through his high school years as a Spartan in Houston. After high school graduation, he began his professional career as a swim coach. He started as an assistant coach on the team he’d swum with forever, Nottingham Forest Swim Team. He then became head coach for two years on other teams. Needless to say, he’s thrilled about this team’s potential and the future challenges we set and overcome. The sky’s the limit for the Travis Country Sharks.
In Coach Paul’s words: Try hard and swim hard.
I have lived in Travis Country since 2007, and all three of my girls – Katie, Ellie and Claire – are Sharks. My daughter Katie is also a coach. I love being a Shark parent and a Sharks coach. Just about everyone we know in the neighborhood we know because of the swim team. All year long I am an attorney, but I look forward to May every year when I am also Coach Sara. Swim season is the best time of the year! Go Sharks!
My name is Meredith Curran and I am a life long resident of Travis Country and I have been a Shark for 15 years! I have so many wonderful memories of my summers as a Shark and I am excited to work hard as coach this year. I will be returning to Fort Lewis College this fall as a sophomore studying Business and where I am also a member of the women's soccer team.
I have been swimming since I moved to TC in 2008, this will be my tenth year swimming with the team. Last year was my first year as a coach for the Sharks an I loved every minute of it. I just finished my first year of college at Southwestern University in Georgetown where I am studying Chemistry.
Hi! I am Rachel Escobedo. I am honored to be back for my 5th and final summer as a TC Sharks coach, but my 17th summer as a part of the Travis Country Swim team. Along with summer league, I swam a few years with Longhorn Aquatics, and spent my high school career with the Austin High swim team. I am so exited to see what this summer has in store for this team! Go Sharks Go!
I am Korey Nuchia, and I am a Senior at St. Edward's University earning a BS in Biology and a minor in French this May. I fell in love with swimming when I was in 7th grade. I swam with my neighborhood swim team for three years then I joined a year round swim team. In high school, I swam on the Junior Varsity and Varsity teams at Cypress Ranch High School in Cypress, Texas. Freshman year of college, I joined the St. Edward's University Club Swim Team which has been a blast! I discovered my passion for coaching swimming when I began private lessons and coached at Team Yes Aquatic Swim Team in Cypress. This will be my fourth summer coaching for a summer league swim team, and my second year coaching for Travis Country. GO SHARKS!
I will be swimming my 13th year with the Sharks this summer. It has been a very big part of my childhood and I am excited to share my love of swimming with neighborhood kids. My favorite strokes are free-style and breaststroke.
I attended Austin High where I was a member of the Academy of Global Studies. I enjoyed competing in cross country, basketball, swimming, and ultimate Frisbee. I graduate June 1st and am excited to attend UT Austin this fall.
I am 19 years of age and was born and raised in Austin. I attended Oak Hill Elementary, O’Henry Middle School, Austin High School, and currently am a Junior Accouting major at Texas A&M. Competing and sports has always been a passion of mine and swimming is an ideal output for it. I have been swimming for the Travis Country Sharks for double digits now and I am riled up to help coach this year’s team to victory!
For the 2018 season we will again be using apprentice coaches during our practices. Any Sharks, 9-11th grade, who are interested in earning community service hours by working as apprentice coaches, please contact:
