Rachel Escobedo Head Coach

Hello Travis Country Shark families! I am Coach Rachel, a long-time member of the TC community. This season will be my 23rd year with the Sharks: my 9th year coaching. I was born and raised here in Austin Texas. My passion for swimming began through summer league with the sharks at the age of 6 and continued every year until I could not compete. During this time I also spent four years with Longhorn Aquatics age group swimming, while also competing for Austin High. More recently I have been an on and off master’s swimmer with Austin Swim Club. When I am not coaching the sharks I am a middle school math teacher here in AISD.

Summer league swimming is about learning the basics and mechanics of the sport of swimming; improving strokes and personal times; and having fun in an encouraging, and supportive community. Please reach out with any questions you may have. I am looking forward to a fun-filled summer!

Hi Sharks, Coach Sarah here!

Raised a TC Shark myself, the summer league swim community holds a special place in my heart. This season I’m excited to reunite with the Shark Family while coaching evening practices. I hope this team will provide your kiddos with a positive community experience whilst learning and becoming more confident in one of the best sports around. Apart from swimming I am an experienced runner, okay gardener, and work as a freelance florist and home organizer.

Hey Sharks! My name is Genet Leeds and I have been swimming with the Sharks since I was 5 years old! I have been so fortunate to be a part of this team for so long. I’ve met some phenomenal people and even better coaches during Sharks. Right now I attend Austin High School and will be a senior next year. Along with swimming with the Sharks I also swam with clubs like Nitro and Austin Swim Club, as well as my high school team at Austin High, where I was the captain. I’m also a lifeguard for our neighborhood, as of last year. This Summer is going to be great and I can’t wait to get started!

Hi sharks! My name is Megan and I’ve been a part of the TC Swim Team since I was 6. This will be my third year coaching and I’m excited to see what we accomplish this season after our win at Champs last year! I love swimming and after being on the Austin High swim team for four years (go Maroons!) I now swim for fun at the University of Arkansas, where I’m studying business. I enjoy reading, baking, snow skiing, and wake surfing (and swimming, obviously). I’m looking forward to a fun swim season!

Hey Sharks, I’m Coach Ryan! After swimming as a shark for over ten years, I am thrilled to be returning as a coach this summer! Being a Shark sparked my passion for swimming. In high school, I competed on the Austin High Swim Team and for Austin Swim Club. Now, I attend Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where I study Economics and Data Science. In addition to my studies, I swim on Trinity’s Swim & Dive Team and am a member of the business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi. Outside of school and swimming, I enjoy golf, grilling, and discovering new movies. Our team is about much more than just learning a life-saving skill. Being a Shark means you will meet lifelong friends, learn teamwork and sportsmanship, and have fun! I am excited and honored to foster our culture and give my swimming knowledge this summer as a coach. See you at the pool!

Abbey Garrett

Hi Sharks! I’m Abbey Garrett and I have loved working as a coach with the Sharks this summer. I’ve spent my entire life in Travis Country neighborhood and starting swimming with the Sharks when I was 5 years old. I’ve been a member of the team ever since and started apprentice coaching the day Coach Paul said I could when I was in middle school! Over the years, I also swam at Nitro, ASC, and competed on both the middle school and high school swim team at Regents. I attended high school at Austin High and was on the varsity swim team all 4 years. I love working with the younger swimmers to help them improve their strokes, turns and gain more confidence in the water. Nothing makes me happier then seeing the smiles on their faces when they master a new skill! I also love competing with my teammates still and cheering on the team on Saturday meet days. My parents volunteer every single year and probably will even when I age out. In my free time, I like hanging out with my friends and family, listening to music, baking, and going to the beach. I’ll be attending Texas A&M in the Fall and plan to study nursing.
